Automotive designers and engineers are using more polymers in exterior applications, an environment in which these materials must withstand considerable mechanical loads as well as resist UV/weathering and caustic chemicals and detergents.
Open to new possibilities for cost and weight saving by integration, modularization and metal replacement, global automotive OEMs and tier suppliers are employing Celanese engineering polymers. They provide excellent mechanical properties along with UV stability, resistance to chemicals, corrosion and high temperatures to achieve the desired function and appearance for exterior components such as lighting, roofing, FEM/REM, trim and door components.
With more than 50 years of experience, Celanese is working with automotive designers and engineers to help them employ a variety of materials, including MetaLX? metal-effect and molded-in color polymers, and long fiber reinforced thermoplastics.
